Bones 03:23
BONES V1 Somebody told us at some point in time How would the waters run dry Well maybe the oldest ages gone by Closely hold us tight CH On the way, on the way home I saw today’s bones V2 Blown by the doldrums as particles of sand Carried in the coldest grasp Wander the pilgrim through a foreign land When oh when will the kingdom change hands CH On the way, on the way home I saw today’s bones On the way, on the way home I saw I saw I saw today’s bones B Ooooh V3 Soft are the shudders of a solitary ache The sounds that you smothered break And what does a lover leave in her wake But one or another mistakes CH On the way, on the way home I saw today’s bones On the way, on the way home I saw I saw I saw today’s bones B Ooooh

REMEMBER YOUR NAME V1 Saddle the horses and ready the men The bellowing voices scattered on the wind Secure the armor and steady those hands The break of morning oh……this is the end V2 Summon the pigeons a message sent Of homesickness carried on their breast Dropping downward a slow descent The people cower oh……this is the end CH I will remember your name (3x) I will remember oh V3 Now under the floorboards the candles dim Sound of the cellar how to breathe it in So bury the hatchet and make amends Prepare the rations oh……this is the end V4 Toppled timber the granite spins Heaven trembles everything within The fire of hailstorm will not pretend We wander forlorn oh…….’cause this is the end CH I will remember your name (3x) I will remember oh V5 When kingdoms crumble and will not mend Disassembled finally again Upon completion this my intent Will be to see you oh……there in the end CH I will remember your name (3x) I will remember oh….I will remember, I will remember I will remember your name (3x) I will remember oh….I will remember oh

THROW OUT YOUR BURDEN V1 Motion pictures falter still And still the images reveal that Frames and fortunes are concealed Between the millimeters V2 Motor cars and window sills Until the passersby have spilled Their thoughts and dreams like falling ills Between the millimeters (2x) CH So pull back the curtain  (yeah) Throw out your burden  (yeah) Forget what you learned  (and) Slow slow down V3 Caravans are carving lines That wind along the curves of spines Just backwards facing pantomimes Between the millimeters V4 Careless hands withholding time And mine for yours or yours for mine While staring down they lead the blind Between the millimeters (2x) CH So pull back the curtain  (yeah) Throw out your burden  (yeah) Forget what you learned  (and) Slow slow down B Oh whoa CH So pull back the curtain  (yeah) Throw out your burden  (yeah) Forget what you learned  (and) Slow slow down

Find A Way 02:47
FIND A WAY V1 Oooh got to find a way, find a way Oooh right away, right away Oooh I’ve got to find a way back to you oh whoa V2 Oooh I feel I’m shaking like, shaking like Oooh say it right, say it right Oooh feel I’m shaking like a storm without you oh whoa You oh whoa B Ba da ba da (3x) Oh whoa V3 Oooh will you remember, me remember me Oooh when I’m trembling, trembling Oooh will you remember me when I remember you oh whoa You oh whoa B Oooh ooh / Ba da ba da (4x) Oh whoa V4 Oooh got to find a way, find a way Ooh right away, right away Ooh got to find a way back to you oh whoa Oooh got to find a way, find a way Ooh right away right away Ooh got to find a way back to you oh whoa You oh whoa

Drift 04:08
DRIFT Intro Oooooh V1 I will take you to the sea tonight Where we always knew there’d be a tide Gathered in the blue green light Yeah I will take you to the sea tonight V2 I will take you far above the leaves Swaying in the dark sound asleep Reaching through the sparse hush of speech I will take you far above the leaves Yes I will take you far above the leaves CH Where we could drift away, away Yeah we could drift away, away B Oooooh V3 I will take you now into my arms Because we have spoken doubt we knew the harm But I will try somehow to prove us wrong And I will take you now into my arms Yes I will take you now into my arms CH Where we could drift away, away Yeah we could drift away, away B Oooooh
6.
HOW LONG HOW MUCH V1 How long ago did this occur to you Somewhere near the silent hour that you refused To concentrate deliberate and hear me through And how many are the words required to prove that CH I have spoken of the truth And I am telling you the truth V2 How much of what’s been said is now confused Well you made contact for a moment then withdrew The things explained are things remaining misconstrued And this expression in my soul is haunting you CH ‘Cause I have spoken of the truth And I am telling you the truth V3 How long ago did your eyes conclude Sometime in the after-hours that you foreknew Undermine ahead of time to stay aloof Well how many indications will be refused CH I have spoken of the truth And I am telling you the truth I have spoken of the truth And I am telling you the truth

FORM WITHOUT SHAPE V1 I deliberate the ink upon the page Has dried like permanent mistakes And these are difficult to change I will then proceed slow and cautiously So not to compromise retreat It is difficult to speak V2 I might speculate a shuffling of the frames Despite what I anticipate Always difficult to face I would be misled the corridors ahead Are drafty passageways of breath Which are difficult to thread CH To know is different than being known To know is different than being known in the end V3 I delineate the form without a shape So suddenly I hesitate It’s a difficult escape I must yet concede you overshadow me So strange the thought is comforting You are difficult to flee CH To know is different than being known To know is different than being known in the end B Instrumental CH To know is different than being known To know is different than being known in the end (2x)

Broken Eyes 04:45
BROKEN EYES V1 The moon swoops down like a sickle unspoiled To harvest the twilight and sever the soil Darkness drips like sulphur and oil To lie in the ground with the tears of its toil V2 Dusk has dwindled in the ration of hours Watch it flee and call it a coward Grim procession of grey that scours The turning hemisphere as it devours CH But don’t look away Don’t turn aside Fix your gaze With broken eyes V3 Stars march forth like so many men Phosphorescent now and again Shadows casting shadows when Slumber calls out like a friend V4 Your face tells of a distance unspanned Crossing the hollows in my hands Silhouettes in a single strand Pilgrims leaving their faraway lands CH But don’t look away Don’t turn aside Fix your gaze With broken eyes (4x)

Shadows 02:36
SHADOWS V1 Starting to unravel I am quite incapable of Drowning out the shadows (2x) V2 Walk across the shambles Through the briars and brambles I’m dreaming of the shadows (2x) I’m dreaming of the shadows CH As they fall I’m dreaming of the shadows as they fall They fall I’m dreaming of the shadows as they fall V3 Starting to unravel I am quite incapable of Driving out the shadows (2x) Driving out the shadows CH As they fall Driving out the shadows as they fall They fall Driving out the shadows as they fall (2x)
10.
GIVE THEM TIME V1 Loneliness turns bitter Strangest places hold the grief Arrows in your quiver Point themselves down at your feet V2 Catapulted inward Rummage darkly through debris Gather there what glimmers Toss back upwards just to see how CH Tonight they refuse to fly Seemingly resigned But give them time V3 Much have you been given So much burning crimson brings Dreams provoking shivers You fold your arms in as you think how CH Tonight they refuse to fly Seemingly resigned But give them time V4 Heaviness remember Weighs no more than you believe Farthest reach draws nearer Than those stones beneath your feet CH2 Tonight they could choose to fly Seemingly resigned Well tonight yeah they could choose to fly Seemingly resigned In their time In their time (3x)
11.
ALL ELSE FADES V1 When all else withers away Bloodlines remain However the strangers parade All else fades All else fades V2 The fact is that fiction contains Sometimes a frame That otherwise is explained The fact is named The fact is named CH I will not delay So whom have you to blame, to blame For night shall relinquish the day, the day V3 In a shudder everything changed And one side escaped Well it seems like we might be the same When all else fades   ‘Cause all else fades CH I will not delay So whom have you to blame, to blame For night shall relinquish the day, the day (2x) B The day — ay ay (4x)

about

Year Of The Cartographer. Age of exploring. Map-maker, voyager, castaway, discoverer. I made this album over the course of a few years, jotting lyrics and cataloging sounds like lines of latitude and longitude--scrawling demarcations as a means to chart the unknown territories of expedition. Songs of sojourn. Songs of shipwreck. Songs of new continents edged by the tide of the human sea.
